- 4 cups Chex cereal
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line with parchment paper.
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Bring to a boil and cook for 4-5 minutes without stirring.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and baking soda; the mixture will bubble.
- Pour caramel sauce over cereal in a large bowl and toss gently to coat evenly.
- Spread the coated cereal onto the prepared baking sheet in an even layer. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
- Remove from oven and let cool completely. Break into pieces and sprinkle with chopped nuts if desired.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
- For extra crunch, add pretzels or chocolate chips.
