A soft, fluffy bun swirled with rich cheese and vibrant currant jam, ideal for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

  • Total Time: 2 hours
  • Yield: 12 buns

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp)
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup currant jam
  • ½ cup cream cheese, softened
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour, kneading until a soft dough forms. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Punch down the dough and roll into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  5. Spread softened cream cheese over the dough, then spread currant jam evenly on top.
  6. Roll the dough tightly from the longer side, then slice into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Place buns on a lined baking sheet, cut side up. Let rise for another 20 minutes.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure milk is warm but not hot to activate yeast properly.
  • Can substitute currant jam with raspberry or blackberry jam for variation.
  • Best served warm or at room temperature.
