Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp)
- ¾ cup warm milk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup currant jam
- ½ cup cream cheese, softened
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- Add remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
- Gradually add flour, kneading until a soft dough forms. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Punch down the dough and roll into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread softened cream cheese over the dough, then spread currant jam evenly on top.
- Roll the dough tightly from the longer side, then slice into 12 equal pieces.
- Place buns on a lined baking sheet, cut side up. Let rise for another 20 minutes.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- Ensure milk is warm but not hot to activate yeast properly.
- Can substitute currant jam with raspberry or blackberry jam for variation.
- Best served warm or at room temperature.
