Perfect for family dinners, potlucks, or meal prep, this cheesy potato dish is both satisfying and versatile. Easily customizable with your favorite ingredients, it delivers hearty flavor in every bite.

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large russet potatoes, sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or rosemary
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish with olive oil.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sliced smoked sausage until browned and slightly crispy, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Spread a portion of the cooked sausage over the potatoes. Repeat the layering until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of potatoes.
  4. In a bowl, combine ranch dressing, sour cream, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture evenly over the layered potatoes and sausage.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 35-40 minutes, until the potatoes are tender.
  6. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle chopped fresh parsley or sliced green onions on top before serving.
  • You can substitute smoked sausage with turkey or chicken sausage for a leaner option.
  • Make sure to use gluten-free ranch dressing if necessary for dietary restrictions.
