Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- Additional butter or jam for serving
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add melted butter, egg, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll into a 12×8-inch rectangle. Cut into squares or shape as desired, then place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Remove and brush with melted butter for a shiny finish.
Notes
- Ensure milk is warm (around 110°F) for proper yeast activation.
- You can customize the rolls with fillings like cinnamon, chocolate, or cheese before baking.
- For storage, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer preservation.
