  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef — a flavorful base to start your savory orzo recipe
  • 1 cup orzo pasta — the star component of this cozy dinner idea
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (parsley or basil) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients and preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Finely dice the onion and mince the garlic.
  2. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until translucent. Add the ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned. Remove excess fat if necessary.
  3. Meanwhile, cook the orzo pasta in boiling salted water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  4. Add the minced garlic, diced tomatoes, and beef broth to the skillet with the cooked beef. Stir well and simmer for a few minutes. Mix in the cooked orzo and transfer everything into a baking dish. Top with shredded cheese.
  5. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

  • Feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Use gluten-free orzo if you need a gluten-free dish.
  • You can prepare the ingredients in advance and assemble just before baking for convenience.
